We are based
at Bradwell-on-Sea at the seaward end of the Blackwater estuary on the East
Coast. The Club was founded in January 1989 by a group of Bradwell Marina boat
owners. From the outset we have catered for both motor and sailing yachts and
extend membership to kindred spirits in other moorings on the River Blackwater
and from as far away as the Walton Backwaters and the River Orwell.
The purpose of the
Club is to promote and
advance the enjoyment of cruising activities for members and to this end we
organise a variety of social and sailing activities during each year. We also
produce a regular newsletter which helps to keep members informed of events, and
provides an opportunity for members to write accounts of their own experiences.
Cruising activities
have taken Club members to France, Belgium and Holland each year on organised
events, but individual members have travelled to Denmark, Sweden, Germany, the
Channel Islands, Spain, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and beyond. At the same
time, many members prefer to stay on the East Coast of England and some seldom
stray further than the Blackwater estuary itself. We try to organise whatever
the membership seems to be most interested in and there are often two or more
events taking place at the same time to try and cater for a variety of
interests.
Development of sailing
skills and experience
has always been encouraged. Many of our sailing activities are organised so that
boats sail together in company (in VHF contact even if they can't always see
each other) and this has encouraged members to extend their cruising
horizons.
