| Specs Appeal ! Who would have predicted such warm weather for our club outing to Heybridge. If I remember correctly last year only 4 boats braved the snow on the Sunday return trip. Sure the weather was chilly and on the nose back to Bradwell, but at least some of us did sail. Eleven boats, Heydays, Courier arriving too early, with the rest Eleanor, Escapade, Illusion, Shalom, Valenda, Kudos, Zingara, Misty Blue and Magic Flute starting out at 5am, all arriving at the correct time and day. Originally seventeen boats had booked, but due to maint., timing, family issues, etc. 6 decided that road vehicle petrol was the better option rather than marine diesel. For the evening dinner party 42 members arrived with most trying to disguise themselves with all manner of glassware. These ranged from the silly to the very silly, from the small to the XXL versions from the plain to the elaborate, and from the homemade to the local joke shop purchase. Thankyou all for the effort made, I am always impressed by the spirit and attitude shown to have a laugh and make fun of each other. Ann, our Commodore's wife was asked to decide a winner for each gender. Rita stood out, or rather her attire caught the judge’s eye, as the female winner, and Robert did his utmost, using charm, wit, offers, and more to persuade Ann that he was the worthy winner! The Jolly Sailor staff produced an excellent meal, in very tight space, which seem to add to the occasion. Peter (Kudos) was not to be thwarted in getting to the bar for a second drink, decided to limbo under the tables, much to the amusement of the ladies present. (he didn’t get as far as the bar) The venue was a late second choice arrangement, due to the problems at the Old Ship, so I thank the staff for saving the day. Andy tried to convince Sheila that his batteries had failed to get an extra days stay, and only two boats played farmers on entering the lock, one being the Commodore and the other a committee member! No further comment necessary. Kev & Jane on Shalom |
